YeeDaH Yod-Dalet-Hey JEE-(D)TAH________ידה_______[YD à JT]
ROOTS: JET (to spurt forth or emit in a stream) is said to be from Latin jactare, a form of jacere (to throw). Latin jacere, after an M132 metathesis, is a ringer for ירק YoRaQ or (Anglicized) JoRaQ (to throw - see "JERK").
Much simpler etymons are available for JET, however, such as ידה YeeDaH, Anglicized to JeeTaH (to "cast"- Lamentations3:53) and ידה YaDaH or JaDaH (to "shoot" - Jeremiah 50:14).
There is יד or JahD (hand, handle), יצא YaTSAh (to go out) and יצקJaTSaQ or YaTSaQ (to cast, to pour out).
You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to know that JET propulsion pushes a craft forward by throwing air backward, just like a canoe moves when you paddle water behind you.
BRANCHES: JET PLANE, JETSAM, JETTISON, JETTY (pier), JUT and perhaps JUTES (if this Germanic tribe were named for propelled weapons) may be related to the Hebrew terms above as well.
The Amer. Heritage Dict. traces JET back to the Indo-Euro pretend-“root” ye (to throw).

In Finnish a nasalized יד YahD, ojentaa, means "to hand," while heittää is to throw. The Italian getto (to throw, JET, shoot or cast) should be from Yod-Dalet too, but see the Yod-Tsadi and harder “cast” words at “CAST.” In Ibgo (Nigeria) jide, a יד YahD hand word, is not to throw but to hold.
Yad is a memory in Hindi. יד YahD is a memorial, monument in Isaiah 56: 5, a יד ושם Yahd VaShem (memorial monumentto establish a lasting “name.”) In Proverbs 11:1 it implies one generation to another. The figurative “hand” here is extending and casting over time, not just over space. In Farsi, the Iranian language of people who want to turn Israel into a Yad Vashem Nuclear Holocaust Memorial, memory is yād. ------------------------------------
