SOOL-LUM_ ______סולם____________[SLM]
ROOTS: SLALOM is a noun or verb of skiing in a zigzag, downhill race. The word is Norwegian; no Indo-European (IE) base or “root” is available. SLANT (also no IE “root”) is from Norwegian slenta (a slope), so that an SLN or SLM etymon of sloping up or down is needed.
The סלם $ooLaM (later סולם $OOLahM) of Jacob's dream
(Genesis 28:12) is not a ladder.
The pre-Edenics word-scholars could only climb the Arabic sullam (ladder). The legendary Norse, Asgard giant SLALOM to heaven is a ramp, a סללה SoaLiLah (Jeremiah 32:24) raised and macademized like a curving uphill or downhill road, a מסלה Mi$eeLah (Isaiah 57:14) that was סלל $aLahL (heaped up, in the tilting engineering we call macademizing).
סלסל $iL$aiL is to curl. Like many roads in Israel or Wyoming. Put these S-L roots together for the sense of balance and engineering necessary in downhill ski racing or uphill road building.
צלל TSaLaL is to dive, plunge, sink - Exodus 15:10, see “TEAL.” It is the fricative-liquid opposite of סלל $aLaL (to raise up – Isaiah 62:10. (S.R. Hirsch).
The engineered opposite of our fricative-liquid סלל curving ramp for a hill (Numbers 20:19) is the straight rows of ישר YaSHaR, straight andשורה SHOORaH, a straight row, seen at “SERIES.”
BRANCHES: SWARM is to climb. סולם $OOLahM may be read SVLM or SWLM, then only an L-to-R liquid shift away from SWRM. Somewhere behind the confusion of the soft C (S) and the hard C (K) may lie a connection between SLALOM, SLANT and the HARD C CLIMBING words.
Latin clinare (to lean) and Greek klimax (ladder) are among the etymons that gave us the following possible derivatives of Samekh-Lamed-Mem, soft C-L-M: ACCLIVITY, CLIENT, CLINIC, -CLINO, CLIMATE, CLIMAX, DECLINE, INCLINE, LEAN, PROCLIVITY.
Some fool might now claim that Genesis got the ramp-to-heaven image from Norse mythology.
It makes as much sense as the current wisdom claiming that the sketchy, highly culture-specific (the trickster)
