As in all animal families, on Noah’s ark there was only one pair of ur-canines (family name: Canidae). כלב KeLeBH is parsed to mean כל KoL (all) + לב Lai(V) (heart) or "all heart. The dog’s emotion is as easy to spot as a wagging tail.

KLB (kol lev/all heart) is fitting for the dog as loyal best friend. But many dogs are “work” dogs who pull sleds, guide sheep or smell explosives, and some diseases. Most commonly dogs were prized as hunters. German names the dog, Hund, as a hunter from חטם [K]HoaDTaM, the sniffing snout. When the hunter merely wounds his prey, the dog doesn’t merely fetch or point out the fallen prey. The dog will track down and return the escaping prey, which is why Slavic dogs are words like P-S, to השיב SHeeBH) be a retriever for the hunter). Alternatively, lip-whistling or bilabial-fricative is the reversal of זאבZ’eBH, a wolf (Genesis 49:27)
