STA(TION) S(H)eDTa[K]H Shin-Tet-Het
SHET-akh שטח [SH-DT à ST]
ROOTS: STATION is given the prolific, vague INDO-EUROPEAN "root" stā (to stand, with derivatives meaning "place or thing that is standing." "The oldest form of this 'root' is *steh," conclude the Semitically-challenged Indo-Europeanists . An H should mean a הHey or חHet in the Edenic source word, after an S and T.
שטח S(H)eDTa[K]H means extent, surface area, any space that is spread out, expanded or enlarged (II Samuel 17:19). משטה MiSHDTaH means place for spreading nets (Ezekiel 26:5).
שטח S(H)iDTa[K]H is stretched out, spread out or laid out in Aramaic-Syriac. Similar is Ethiopic and Arabic, where satkh is a "surface."
See entries like "SEAT" for ST Edenic etymons like שת SHahT ( to place, STATION, SET - Genesis 41:35), and שת SHahT, a foundation, SETTING or basis. A third fricative-dental root, seen in יסוד Yi$OAD, is also a foundation (Leviticus 4:7).
When an employee is away from his DESK, he is away from his STATION… his area or "place of standing." A DESK is also a spread-out surface, and it too is from שטח S(H)eDTa[K]H – after an M213 metathesis with dental shift – see "DESK." The etymology scholars make STATION a cognate of STABLE and the ST-B family to be seen at "STABLE."
BRANCHES: The alleged "cognate" HISTOGRAM comes from Greek histos, web, tissue—adds the AHD, " (that which is set up)." Set up by who? This is more logically a scrambled STH word about an extended area.
Another "cognate," STAITH means a stage, wharf or path along an embankment. It is from Anglo-Saxon staeth (shore), attributed to the IE base of "stand." STAITH is not a well-known word, but it illustrates the meaning of "a stretch of surface area" that the historical linguists should have stuck to before tossing scores of words into a dumpster called stā.
