ACQUIRE LaQaK[H] Lamed-Koof-Het
La-KAHKH לקח [LQK à CQR]
ROOTS: The Indo-European (IE) "root" of ACQUIRE is the confused quaerere (to seek). The "root" is a "Latin verb of unknown origin." There is no reason why ACQUIRE and CONQUER should be related to "seeking" words like QUERY, but the AHD and most others will toss in anything that got later spelled in vaguely the same way. Wild fabrication trumps a humble admission of uncertainty. Those "seeking" words with Q, U, R may be from an M213 metathesis of בקר BaQeR, to search, seek, investigate (Leviticus 13:36).
The Edenic etymon for both ACQUIRE and CONQUER has the requisite liquid and two gutturals, although they are right-to-left and shifted (like liquid R from Lamed/L). לקח LaQaK[H] means to acquire, as in inheritance (Numbers 34:14), to marry or the legal purchasing of a wife (Numbers 12:1), as well as to capture, take possession of, captivate or win (II Samuel 4:6).
The most common rendition of the word is simply to "take." If my brother can "take" your brother, he can CONQUER him, or beat him in a fight.
BRANCHES: The other listed cognates of ACQUIRE and CONQUER that do not belong here are DISQUISITION, EXQUISITE, INQUIRE, PERQUISITE, QUAESTOR, QUERIST, QUEST, QUESTION and REQUIRE. INQUISITION was not deemed worthy of mention.
Greek αγορά agorá (to buy) may get G-R from the same place that ACQUIRE got Q-R.
One of the better לקח LaQa[K]H forms out there is loq’<o>, to buy, in Maya: K’ich’e. Also from Fernando Aedo is the following table of often-reversed G.C. (Global Cognates):
