A time To Embrace, A Time To Refrain From Embracing...

When you hear the song, "To Everything Turn, Turn, Turn"  and the line "and a time for every purpose under heaven," the word "time" is  ע-ת in Eccessiastes (traditionally written by King Solomon).

Both Ayin and Tahf were engineered to be versatile.  The Tower of Babel and the diversity of Pre-Hebrew (Edenic) to many languages  was caused by Man, but in the Eternal's Script.  Rather like the expulsion from Eden, the Deluge, etc.

Let us turn, turn, turn to the many TIME words that were spun off from Edenic ע-ת

ET(ERNAL)              [A]iT               Ayin-Tahf

ATE        עת          [vowel or guttural plus T or S]

ROOTS:  The alleged Indo-European (IE ) “root” of ETERNAL is aiw (vital force, life, eternity). See the "VIVID" entry, and א-ב

The IE “root” for ETESIAN is a better fit, since wet-2, and Greek etos means “year.”  Even the weak sound correspondence between the reconstructed, never spoken root aiw and words like ETERNITY are less necessary considering Latin aetas (age) and the extended Latin aeternus (eternal).

The two, closely related Edenic roots, which were actually spoken, and used millennia before Latin devolved are

1) עת  [A]iT (time, season – Akkadian ettu, time – Genesis 18:14), and

2)   עד [A]hD (eternity, perpetuity – Exodus 15:18). The precise semantic correspondence between ETERNAL and  עד  [A]hD makes up for the minor dental shift from D to T.

ע-ד  Ayin-Dalet has time-based meanings like   עדד  [A]DaD to (to count – see “ADD”) and עד    [A]iD (menstruation – Isaiah 64:5), but   עד   [A]hD also marks space – see “ADD” and “AT.”   As usual, there is a two-letter family.

עת  Ayin-Tahf “time”words include:  עתה [A]TaH means now (Genesis 22:12);  עתד [A]TaD is to precede;   עתד [E]eTaiD to prepare (Proverbs 24:27);   עתי [E]eTeeY is timely, appointed (Leviticus 16:21) and ] עתיד A]hTeYD is future (Deuteronomy 32:35) .

Shifting to א-ז   Aleph-Zayin (close to  עAyin plus  ת Tahf/T as Sahf/(S) - there is the time-related adverb or pronoun  אז AhZ  (then, Exodus 15:1, at that time – see “SO”).  The harsh guttural  ע Ayin/GH is heard in an  עת  GHaiT (time) word in Arabic, like ghadan (tomorrow). קץ  QaiTS, a conclusion, end of time (Genesis 6:13)  echoes the guttural Ayin.

BRANCHES:  Others consider עד  [A]hiD, future, to be Post Biblical Hebrew.  תTahf can also be pronounced as an S or Sahf. Thus there is Old Celtic/Welsh oes (age, time), Manx eash (age, century, aeon, oldness), and similar terms in Old Irish, Scots and Greek aies (always).

“AUGHT” is the only listed “cognate” of ETERNAL to sound like it belongs. Others include AGE, AYE, COETANEOUS, COEVAL, EON (see “EON”),  EVER, EVERY, LONGEVITY, MEDIEVAL,  NAY, NEVER, NO, PRIMEVAL and SEMPITERNAL.  Listed cognates of ETESIAN include: INVETERATE, VEAL, VETERAN, VETERINARY, VITELLUS and WETHER.

While a short period of time, DAY  is from ע-ת  Ayin-Tahf – see “EON.”  At the beginning of “day,” German Tag reverses GT or Ayin/GH-Tahf/T.  Spanish  dia (day) uses the vowel and dental available from a reversed    ע-ת Ayin-Tahf.  The Spanish dia is initially from Latin die (day).

These are also עת [A]i(S) (time) Ayin-Tahf reversed. But the Ayin is the vowel Ayin, and the Tahf/T has shifted dentals to D.    Also a vowel-dental, Arabic id is a holiday, a marked occasion as with ע-ת  Ayin-Tahf.    AT “AD INFINITUM” is an ע- ד  Ayin-Dalet antonym, not synonym, of ETERNAL.

Words in Araona (Amazon) that may come from  ע-ת Ayin-Tahf are  dya, now  (ß, S-D); etsia, immediately and quetsio, when.  Favoring the Tahf as Sahf, just as Polish Jews would do, Polish czas (time, term) is a  S-G  of עת GHai(S), time.   Reversing עת [A]i(S) (time, season) we have Chinese shi (time, season). But Tahf is usually a dental. ETESIAN is from the Greek etos (year).  In the Hungarian “time” word, ido, the Tahf of עת [A]iT (time ) has hardened dentals to a D.

“Old”  in Dutch is oud.  It is more logical to assume that Old English ald (old) is an ע-ת Ayin-Tahf derivative with an added liquid then to believe that OLD is from the iE "root" al-3 (to grow, nourish).   "Old" for the Japanese is oita, and for the Turks eski.  Tahf or Sahf is S or T.

ע-ת

Ayin-Tahf can be K-T.  "Ancient" for the venerable Chinese is ku tai (te); reverse to tik (old) among the Salishan languages of America's Northwestern Indians.  Ayin-Tahf as Sahf/ (S) can be reversed in Japanese as sai (year, age). More easily seen is Japanese itsu (time).    Because Ayin can also be a GH, there are guttural-dental “year” words like Serbo-Croat godina and Russian got.

See “YEAR.”

Also from Ayin-Tahf,  עת GHaiT  (a time) are the GD in Russian words for “sometimes” and “never.”   Korean “soon” is kot a S-G of   ע-ת Ayin-Tahf (as in GHaTaH, now).

If  ע-ת  Ayin-Tahf can provide “time” words of a fricative and/or dental plus vowel, there are many more derivatives to list, including: English EVENTIDE, TIDE, TIDINGS; Old English tid (time, season); Old Norse tidhr, occurring; and “time” words like Czech cas; Danish, Swedish and Norwegian tid; Dutch tijd; German Zeit; Turkish saat; and Yiddish tseit.  עתי  [E]eTeeY , appointed, at the ready may have quickened Araina (Amazon)  etsia, immediately (S-D).

“Time” words with a guttural Ayin, with an added W are Arabic waqt, and derivatives Indonesian waktu and Swahili wakati.

KuTi  is an occasion, a time (Quechua)  <  עת GHaiT  [FA]

Like Germanic wer-ald (age of man), Portuguese  etária is a phase in life. Also from Dave Funnell is the association of עת GHaiT (time) and the Gimel-Tahf mysterious musical word common in psalms : גתית GiTeeYT.

-----------------------------------
We turn in Genesis from Creation to the re-Creation of the Flood, the one Dryness breaking up into many continents and islands. Just as the one human language, Edenic, would break up into 70, and by now 6000, dialects.
Finally, we have reached the TIME to find our true roots,
to get back to the ONE.
